New York Yankees at Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals host the New York Yankees tonight in what will finally be the MLB season opener.

Gerrit Cole will get his first start for the Yankees against Max Scherzer. Both pitchers have very similar career pitching stats with regards to the pitches they allow being hit, with Cole having an edge with regards to solid contacts. The Yankees will look to get some hits off Scherzer and the defending champions, in order to help Cole get his first victory as a Yankee.
When looking closely at their records, the choice for tonight seems like a no-brainer. Max Scherzer had a 4-5 record at home last year, and a 6-5 record in night games, posting a 3.16 and 3.04 ERA respectively.

Gerrit Cole went for an impressive 12-0 record during the course of July, August and September last year while with the Astros, and had an 8-3 record while away, 14-5 during night games, posting a 2.36 and 2.65 ERA respectively.

Those five losses were Cole’s only losses in 2019, but his late season form allowed him to post some of the best postseason pitching performances.

Pick: NY Yankees -1.5 at 1.90
